design process

After the particle trials to show the movement of the particle that flows into the building, the dynamic form of walls are created.

I made the shape into the wire mesh to makes holes on the wall so that people can look through the walls and letting the light to come through.

It was actually really hard to make the form that I wanted, I actually changed and move each points in the edit mode of each form of walls. It actually took a lot of time, I don't think it was a waste of time but I didn't really have to do this as I took more than 3 days to create this specific form. It clearly shows the dynamic movement on the building, I am just proud of myself that I actually created this form.

There are several particle movement on the envelope of the model to show how the dynamic roof structure is made.

The flow of the particle movement goes into the internal space.

The difference between the previous assignment of my design and the final assignment design is that the dynamic movement wall in the previous design leads people to go through the building but the final design makes people come into people and make them stay.

As all the dynamic walls have forms of flowing into the building, that form affects people to come inside like the black hole.

design process

I used the particle system in blender to show the particle movement as people's movement in the city before the building was built. There was obviously one thick line of movement in the Brisbane that the movements start from the residential buildings to CBD.
It actually took 4 hours to render each animations. It looks great ! but it takes too long time...

There are several animations made to show the movement in different angles of cities.

The animation is showing the actual movement that can be changed after the building is built.

The fly through animation of the city is in youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2X_pFfCZhE

The top view look really nice.

It actually show how busy people are in the city.

By creating the space under the story bridge, it will chagne the movement of the people into the space.

It actually takes quite a long time to render this animation !!

3 hours per animation... Incredible.. I want to find out some faster way to render.

Let's see in the top view to see how it looks like.

Great..

Another try ! just one more ~
Let's try in different angles

Very very good !!

It looks great actually !! Let's try in some other views

It takes too long time to upload the video so I convert them into avi file with using the converter, but it shows the text in the middle. It does not bother too much so, it will just keep using it.

Also, the powerpoint does not offer the quicktime animation in the presentation, so it might be good to start to get used to using the converter.

This particle movement shows the original people movement before the space is created and the other videos will show the movement of the people after the space is created.

I made some of the particles which have differnet coloured particles in different type of spaces.

I will make some fun particle movement animation with this model !

It might be very interesting to see it.

Now let's make some fun stuff !

The orange part of the space represents the high dense residential buildings. It is just across the story bridge which is clearly seen from our proposed site.

The city map development.

As there were some empty space in the city that has not been made properly yet, so I put some of the buildings in that space by using blender.

As it is really easy to copy the objects in the blender, it took for a while to make this space but not too long time.

design process

I was trying my best to make the special form of the roof structure but it was not really easy by hand. I created a single plain and move the points around it. But the basic form was inspired by the initial form of the roof in the design.

This design will make the air flow naturally and protect people from rain as well as the sunlight.
It will provide a shelter for people.

However, the design is a bit boring at the moment. Let's make it interesting.

Other than this abstract roof structure, I will try to make more simple structure.

Design process

As a final step, change the form of two columns in the middle to put the ramp between them.
The incline angle should be really low for people to walk upstairs easily.

I copied a few of them to create the row of wave form.

It also surround the slab on the second level of the building.

Now I have a real form of the supporting column. I will use this as left part of the building which supports the floor slab as well as the ramp for people to walk up the level.

Now I have one supporting beam. As it is in subsurf mode, very smooth structure has been created. I will make it back to normal so that it looks like a real support.

and then , I will copy several of them to make the form like a real wave shape.

I extend the line by pressing e button and create some surfaces.
After this step, I will make the thickness for these supporting beams.

After selecting them, I separated them with p button.

Now I have a single line which has several points on it !

How can I make the form...

To create a new form of the wave form, I tried to get one line out of the original form.

As I am going to make the structure as support beams, I only need to get a single line to create the form. I will try to duplicate them and move them to create the new form.

process of design

When these three wave forms are stuck together, it actually shows the real dynamic form.
As the dynamic movement is my initial design concept, it was really successful to create that characteristic senses in this design.

I got the water fall form out of the trial, which will be another roof of my design.
It is very high so it can be the commercial space for several shops of food court or it can be used for some other commercial community.

To develop this water fall shape, I actually dropped the fluid on the top of the cliff.
To get the form of the waterfall, I actually convert the fluid and get the form which I want.

It was not actually dynamic, so I convert the form of the roof and take out the forms which I want, and change them by editing the points. Copy and paste points if I need, and create the face between them. Also, I created some openings for the sunlights as well as changing the form more smooth by using the smoothsurf.

It actually does not look like the roof, but it has really characteristic forms to represent the dynamic movement and people will actually enjoy being inside.

The walls look like the water fall from the mountain. I want to develop more to continue on this concept of making water falls.

So I dropped the fluid on the roof, to see the shape when it dropped on the roof.
It actually forms the natural wall shape when it is dropped.

For the roof, I also used the roof from the original folie.
I actually tried to make it fluid shape same as the first wall trial, but it did not really work properly as I could not see any differences.

I took out the walls separate and tried to render itself to see the actual view of the dynamic movement of the walls and it actually look really really great.

The wave form actually came out from the particle trial as I could not make a good and long wave form out of the fluid from the folie.

I picked some lines from the hair of the particle trial and made faces onto them.

And then, I tried to make holes on the faces.
It came out really good and dynamic form of the walls. they are very dynamic itself and also, the sunlights go through the walls and make really dynamic shadows.

For the second trial, I changed the actual folie wall into fluid to see how they change.
It actually having a good wave form after I change them into fluid.
Let me try to develop this form

I actually tried the wave trial onto my folie to see how they interpret each other.
It actually does not work properly to see the wave form from the folie.

The initial idea of my design is from the concept of my previous folie design.
It begins with the form of the front wall which shows the dynamic movement.

The particle trial

These three effects are not very different but I could see a small amount of difference when I increased the amount to more than 2000. They are differences in the way they let the particles out.

The volume effect

Vertex effect

Face effect.

Magnetic trial

The vortex effect

The halo texture, hair

The space fight.

The random effect.

The vertex trial.

The magnetic trial. It pushes the particle and pulls the particle.

The harmonic trial

The particle trials showing bomb effect. It's blowing up !
The speed of the bomb depends on the value of the normal.

map of the brisbane

This animation shows the people's movement through the design.

The animation of the brisbane city movement.
It took long long time to render...

The dynamic movement of the people in the city.

Put the green movement onto the map

by doing the contour topomap by blender, the tutorial group finally created a brisbane map in the blender
